A GROUP of Malay literature enthusiasts yesterday launched a poetry book dedicated to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 70th birthday.

Naming themselves Amas Tampawan, the group’s deputy chairperson Pg Hj Shamsu Pg Hj Kadar said they had been working on the poetry anthology, now named “Antologi Pantun dan Syair Restu 70”, since 2014.

A total of 13 writers in the group were to contribute seven verses each to make up to a poem called “Dirgahayu 70”, and each of them had their own versions published in the book.

On the sides of the “Dirgahayu 70”, each poet had also contributed their own poems to be published in the book.

Writers of the Restu 70 includes former legislative council member Hj Ramli Hj Lahit, who is also the penghulu of Mukim Telisai and other renowned Malay literature figures.

Amas Tampawan is a group of veteran literature writers aiming at upholding and preserving the values in Malay literature, such as poems and other related literary works.

The book launched yesterday was the second poetry anthology written by writers in the group, with the first one, “Amas Tampawan” dedicated to the establishment of the group in 2014, said deputy chairperson.

Stretching for 136 pages altogether, the book, he said, will shortly arrive in the market for $5 (soft-cover) and $7 (hard-cover).
