PAINTINGS by local artists will be available for sale during the French Bruneian Arts Festival next week.

In an interview yesterday, Dato Shofry Abdul Ghafor, owner of Rainforest Gallery, said the festival will feature the works of seven local artists which will be sold using the silent auction format.

“The idea of a silent auction is that if someone’s interested in a particular work, they would inform a representative on duty at the exhibition of the price they’re willing to pay, and at the end of the festival week, the winning bids would be announced,” he said.

“I appreciate the opportunity provided by Alliance Francaise de Brunei for giving artists a platform to not just showcase their work but also to earn income from their passion.”

However, he said not all of the works on display would be for sale, with those unavailable for purchase to be clearly labeled.

Dato Shofry said he hoped to still be able to add more works by local artists in time for the festival to provide a wider selection.

The artworks will be on display at the Rotunda of The Empire Hotel & Country Club for a week beginning November 12.
