AN INDIVIDUAL was fined $100 last Thursday for dumping a pile of rubbish at the back of a shophouse in Seria.

The enforcement section of the Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal found the stash of rubbish which included boxes, a chair and mattress in the morning and warned the individual and his company to settle the compound fine within seven days or risk being brought to court.

The offence falls under Chapter 12 (1) (a) of the Minor Offences Act Paragraph 30 for the storage or dumping of items in a public area without a valid permit.

A fine of $1,000 will be levied for a second offence. A third offence will result in a fine of $3,000 and a prison term not exceeding three months.

The Municipal Board has issued numerous reminders to owners of public and commercial premises to care for and maintain the surrounding areas, dumping rubbish only in allocated areas to avoid pollution.

The Enforcement Section of the Municipal Board will continue to conduct periodic patrols and monitoring.
