Robbery accused pleads not guilty

A 23-YEAR-OLD man claimed trial yesterday over the charge of robbing a 74-year-old woman earlier this month.

APO Awg Musa Hj Awg Shapawi is accused of stealing a gold necklace and two gold bracelets from Hjh Piut Jamudin at a house in RPN Kg Rimba Gadong on October 4 this year.

During proceedings before Intermediate Court judge Pg Masni Pg Hj Bahar yesterday, Musa pleaded not guilty to the single charge, which carries an imprisonment term of up to 30 years and not less than 12 strokes of the cane.

Deputy public prosecutor Hjh Rozaimah Hj Abd Rahman indicated that six witnesses will be called, which include the victim and her son as well as the police officers investigating the case. Meanwhile, Musa’s defence counsel Hj Rozaiman Abdul Rahman indicated that his client will be giving evidence.

The trial is set to commence next year on January 18 until January 20 followed by another session on February 1 until February 3.

Musa was released on a $10,000 court bail or one local surety pending the trial next year.
