SERI Begawan Religious Teachers University College (KUPU SB) yesterday signed Memorandums of Agreement (MoAs) with universities from Malaysia and Indonesia to collaborate in areas of teaching, research and student exchange.

The college signed MoAs with International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and Pascasarjana Institut Agama Islam Negeri (IAIN) Bukittinggi.

Signing on behalf of KUPU SB was its Deputy Rector, Dr Hj Adnan Hj Besar, and Assistant Deputy Ra’es Dr Abang Hadzmin Abang Hj Taha.

Signing for IIUM was Associate Professor Dr Badri Najib Zubir, Director, Academic Programme and Student Management Division.

Meanwhile, IAIN Director Dr Ismail M Ag signed on behalf of the Indonesian varsity.

Prior to signing the agreements, the deputy rector of KUPU SB said the college is determined to improve its performance through collaborative works with foreign universities.

“In order to benefit the Muslim community within academic institutions, we have to improve our collaboration with other foreign universities, especially in areas of teaching,” said Dr Hj Adnan.

He said IIUM and IAIN have adopted systems and programmes that could help KUPU SB enhance its quality.

“We’re still lacking experience in management as well as in terms of our scoring system. We’re hoping IIUM and IAIN are willing to share their knowledge on these matters,” he said.

He also thanked the representatives from IIUM and IAIN for their efforts and support for KUPU SB’s sixth convocation.

Since it was established in 2007, KUPU SB has signed more than 20 MoAs with various universities in the region.

KUPU SB currently has three faculties and six centres, including an Usuluddin faculty, Syariah faculty, education faculty, core knowledge centre, language centre, postgraduate centre and research centre.
