UTB 3rd Convocation festival opens

UNIVERSITI Teknologi Brunei (UTB) yesterday held its Third Convocation Festival 2016 to honour the 599 graduating students next month.

The Assistant Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Fakhri Hj Badar said this year, the convocation fair features four zones, namely The Journey, Strategic Partnerships, 360 Graduate and The Cycle, held at UTB’s Phase three complex for the first time.

The exhibition highlights UTB’s milestones in both academic and research development, strengthening of partnerships, graduate preparation and infrastructure development.

It also aims to share with the public of the UTB student’s culture through an array of booths representing a number of clubs at the university including leadership, culture, entrepreneurship and sport clubs.

Speaking to some participants at the exhibition, Tan Yee Moi who is a third-year student, manning one of the booths under the Strategic Partnerships exhibition said her internship with global aviation company Piper Aircraft, Inc (Piper) has helped boosted her confidence.

“I’m really glad to have interned with Piper as it helped polish my communication skills and put me outside of my comfort zone. It taught me to be independent and not to rely on others for help,” said the 26-year-old.

Several other clubs at the varsity including Brunei Parkour and UTB’s fencing club were also on hand to demonstrate their talents for His Royal Highness Prince (Dr) Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office who is also lso the Pro-Chancellor of UTB.

Azizil Anwar Haji Mosli said parkour is slowly getting more popular among the youths in Brunei , noting that one of the main keys of parkour is discipline.

He said they only had two days of practice to prepare for the exhibition.
