‘US committed to sustain friendly ties with Brunei’

THE Deputy Minister of Defence First Admiral (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz Hj Mohd Tamit received an introductory call from W. Patrick Murphy, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Southeast Asia, Bureau of East Asia and Pacific Affairs, US Department of State, on Wednesday.

During the call, the deputy assistant secretary said the US was committed to sustain close and friendly relations with countries in the region — including Brunei Darussalam — particularly during the transition period from the current US administration to the next. Both sides also expressed their satisfaction on the good state of bilateral defence relations and the ongoing collaboration that has contributed to the advancement of various practical cooperative frameworks such as the ASEAN Defence Minister’s Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus), Western Pacific Naval Symposium (WPNS) and Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT).

During the call, the deputy assistant secretary of state was accompanied by US Ambassador to Brunei Craig Allen. — Amanda Yap
