Local man denies drug charges, claims trial

A LOCAL man claimed trial after pleading not guilty to consuming drugs yesterday.

Mohd Rafee Hj Mohd Jublee, 41, denied the charge that he had consumed methylamphetamine, a Class A drug known locally as Syabu, on April 16 four years ago when appearing before the presiding Senior Magistrate Hj Nabil Daraina PUKDPSSU Hj Badaruddin in court.

The presiding senior magistrate then set the trial date to begin on November 6, 2016.

The prosecution told the court that they will bring in six witnesses for the trial while the defendant indicated that he has no witnesses to call upon.

The defendant had initially been due to appear at court for the mention two days ago but failed.

If convicted, the defendant faces a maximum penalty of 10 years’ imprisonment and a $20,000 fine for the offence under section 6(b) of the Misuse of Drugs Act, Chapter 27 or a minimum of three years’ imprisonment if he is a repeat offender.
