THE Prime Minister’s Office held a ceremony yesterday to welcome the new Hijrah year 1438.

Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office Dato Paduka Hj Hamdan Hj Abu Bakar was the guest of honour. Also present were Deputy Minister (Corporate, PENGGERAK and Economy) Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Roselan Haji Mohd Daud and permanent secretaries, deputy permanent secretaries and senior officers at the Prime Minister’s Office and the departments under it.

Ustaz Mohd Khairul Nazif Hj Awang Damit, an invited speaker from Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), delivered a talk entitled ‘Harta Berkat Negara Selamat’ which was the theme for this year’s national Hijrah celebrations.

He stressed the importance of accompanying one’s actions with the right niat, or intention, especially when planning to take part in major activities such as performing Haj.

“We have to correct our intention; our intention must be to seek blessings from Allah SWT. Speaking of wealth and property, give sedekah (alms) regardless of how much you earn, as it will create blessings for us and help us achieve our desires (such as performing Haj),” he added.

Hijrah, which marks Prophet Muhammad’s (SAW) migration from Mekah to Madinah in 622 AD, signifies a turning point in the history of Islam as it marks a major propagation of the religion.

The event was organised by the Civil Service Institute and the Narcotics Control Bureau.

The celebration is an annual event to commemorate Hijrah and strengthen the relationship between the officers and staff.
