UNIVERSITI Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) will offer a diploma course in Syariah criminal justice system next year, said its rector.

In a recent interview, Dr Hj Norarfan Hj Zainal said the new programme is part of UNISSA’s efforts in strengthening the implementation of the Syariah Penal Code Order 2013.

The university currently offers the Certificate of Syariah Criminal Justice System.

The one-year Certificate of Syariah Criminal Justice System was introduced in the 2015/2016 academic year, while a double degree in the same discipline was introduced in 2012.

Twenty-six people completed the Certificate of Syariah Criminal Justice System course during UNISSA’s convocation last Saturday.

Ten graduates were awarded a double degree in Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Syariah Law.

“We are happy with this accomplishment as these courses are necessary to meet current needs towards the implementation of the Syariah Penal Code Order 2013,” he said.

The next intake of the Certificate of Syariah Criminal Justice System will start in January 2017.

“We have received requests from the Royal Brunei Police Force of their intention to send more officers to study the course. For now, we do not know yet how many will be taking the course,” Dr Hj Norarfan added.

The rector hoped the UNISSA graduates will contribute to the country and religion with the knowledge they had gained.
