BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
THE chancellor of Islamic University of Maldives yesterday held talks with Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College (KUPU SB) officials to discuss possible collaborations.
Dr Mohammad Shaeem Ali Saeed expressed interest in collaborating with KUPU SB.
“Alhamdulillah, they (KUPU SB) have very good programmes and we discussed on how we can cooperate with each other, especially in teaching and developing Arabic language programmes and curriculum,” he told reporters on the sidelines of the meeting.
The chancellor said the college is doing a good job in training teachers in religious education.
“The teachers are the backbone of the ummah (Muslim community). We have to develop the skills of teaching and the way of delivering the message. That is why training of Arabic language and Syariah teachers are very important,” he added.
Ustaz Mohammad Hilmy Baihaqy Hj Awg Yussof, director of KUPU SB’s International and Public Relations Office, said the chancellor was interested in their new programmes.
“We have agreed to work with each other and have collaboration in the field of Islamic education and Arabic studies,” he said.
“KUPU SB is quite unique because we offer religious education training programme from Higher National Diploma (HND) to PhD. That is what he is interested in,” he added.
