GHANIM International Cooperation Sdn Bhd, brand holder of bruneihalal, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) yesterday with the Ministry of Health (MoH) to promote healthy eating and lifestyle.

The two parties also launched the ‘Read the Label’ campaign and showcased a video on promoting the act of reading food labels so that consumers will know more about the nutritional content of the food they’re buying.

Ghanim and MoH will also launch several campaigns and programmes to promote fitness and eating healthy.

Ghanim’s CEO Dr Nur Rahman said many countries around the world and the World Health Organization have initiated programmes to limit the consumption of salt, sugar and fat as a preventive measure to reduce the incidence of non-communicable diseases.

“Ghanim has been working to ensure that the products taken on board under the bruneihalal brand adds value to the lives of those who consume them with the aspirations that other manufacturers and food vendors will follow suit towards aligning with the ‘Read the Label’ initiative as part of their commercial and social responsibilities,” he said.

Ghanim has launched products which have lower fat, salt and/or sugar content to provide healthier alternatives to consumers.

Dr Nur signed the MoU on behalf of Ghanim, while the MoH was represented by Deputy Permanent Secretary Dr Hjh Maslina Hj Mohsin. Ghanim’s Chairman Dato Paduka Dr Hj Mohd Amin Liew Abdullah and MoH’s Permanent Secretary Hj Zakaria Hj Serudin witnessed the signing.

The signing ceremony was also attended by senior MoH officials.
