THE youth groups of Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah have extended the second phase of their charity project to collect donations from members of the public until November 4.

Organised by the mosque’s Syababurroja Youth and Muslimah groups, the project themed ‘Mulianya Berbagi’ aims to help underprivileged families as well as fire victims.

Coordinator of the project, Mudim Hj Suhaili Hj Kalong, said the date has been extended due to the public’s request as well as the overwhelming response received.

“We had members of the public come up to us to ask for it to be extended because a lot of people wanted to contribute.”

He said the contributions collected for the second phase will be presented to the underprivileged and fire victims in the Brunei-Muara district.

For the second phase of the project, Mudim Hj Suhaili said the groups are focusing on receiving groceries such as rice, cooking oil and sugar as they still have numerous amounts of clothing items.

“Every donation counts. There are many underprivileged families in the country and we really want to play our part in helping ease their burden.”

Today, the youth groups will be presenting donations to 50 families in a ceremony which will be held at the mosque.

During the first phase, more than 500 individuals including companies, secondary schools and government agencies contributed. The donations were presented to more than 300 recipients.

As of press time, more than 60 individuals have donated for the second phase of the project.

Those who wish to give donations can drop the items at the Muqaddam and Quran administration building of the mosque from 9.30am to 4.30pm.
