FOUR Bruneians claimed trial at the Magistrates’ Court yesterday after pleading not guilty to a raft of theft charges.

The defendants — 29-year-old Haris Metusin, 36-year-old Marisnan Sahari, 39-year-old Mohd Jafry Hj Othman and 46-year-old Malik Puasa — each pleaded not guilty to the charge of stealing jewellery, a Rolex watch, a laptop and a tablet from a house in Kg Tagap earlier last month.

In addition, Haris and Mohd Jafry denied they had stolen a delivery van belonging to the courier company LBC Mabuhay on the night of September 27, 2016 from a house in Kg Jerudong while Mohd Jafry denied the charge that he had stolen a Toyota Kijang from yet another house in Kg Tagap earlier this month.

Meanwhile, Marisnan also pleaded not guilty to one count of trespassing into a house in Kg Tagap with the intent to steal, court documents show.

Presiding Magistrate Hjh Ervy Suftriana Hj Abd Rahman then set the next mention to be on November 7 this year to fix the trial dates.

The defendants were all released on bail until their next due appearance in court.

If convicted, the defendants are each facing up to seven years’ imprisonment for stealing from a home under Section 380 of the Penal Code while the other charges carry a maximum penalty of three years’ imprisonment for each of the other charges.
