A LOCAL man was released on bail yesterday pending investigation into the charge of domestic abuse.

Muhamad Hafiz Mohamad Junaidi, 25, is facing a charge of assaulting his 23-year old wife on October 1 this year at their home in Kg Pekilong in Muara and a charge of criminal intimidation when the defendant threatened to upload nude photos of her on October 17 this year.

During the proceedings yesterday, prosecuting officer Hjh Zuraidah Hj Sidek had applied for Muhamad Hafiz to be further remanded as investigation is still ongoing.

The prosecution’s grounds for remand was due to Muhamad Hafiz’ siblings also being questioned by the police and fear of tampering with the defendant since they are staying at the same house with the defendant.

However, the presiding magistrate Dewi Norlelawati Hj Abd Hamid denied the application since prosecution indicated that no further investigation is to be conducted on Muhamad Hafiz.

Muhamad Hafiz was released on a $3,000 court bail or the same amount in two local sureties.

Among other conditions attached to the bail includes no witness tampering, namely, the siblings.

Likewise, the defendant is not to go to nor enter his house until the ordered investigation is completed.

The defendant would also breach bail conditions if he contacts his wife and also if he fails to report himself to the police on a weekly basis.

A further mention of the case is scheduled to be heard on November 3.
