Over 700 register for Tutong cycling expedition

AROUND 700 cyclists have registered for the cycling expedition organised in conjunction with Pg Muda Mahkota Pg Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah (PMMPMHAMB) Hospital’s 18th anniversary, said the co-chairman of the cycling expedition yesterday.

The expedition, the first of its kind to be organised by the hospital in collaboration with Tutong Cycling Team and the National Cycling Team, is slated for October 23.

The cycling expedition will have two routes, 20km (within Tutong district) and the 56km (from Tutong to Brunei-Muara district) routes.

Siti Norsharihamdinah Hj Besar said safety is their top priority.

Every participant must adhere to the rules of safety such as riding with helmets and making sure that their bicycle is in good condition and road worthy.

Those without helmets will not be allowed to take part, she said.

Other precautions that participants need to adhere to are making sure that they are healthy and fit; adhere to traffic regulation and to stay focus on the road.

Participants must also not participate while under the influence of drugs that are prohibited by doctors. Participants also are asked not to compete or race with other cyclists during the expedition, she added.

Md Danil Hj Othman, co-chairman of the cycling expedition said traffic officers from the Department of investigation and Traffic Control of the Royal Brunei Police Force will be on site to manage traffic flow during the expedition at both routes. Medical personnel will also be escorting the participants.

“We would like to remind participants to be at the starting points early as we have to start at 6.30am for the 56km expedition, while for the 20km expedition we will kick off at 7.30am,” he said.

A member of the Ministry of Health Cycling Club, Hj Muhd Aiman Abdullah Engkang said route A should take an estimated two hours with time inclusive of pit stops, while route B is estimated to take three hours with pit stops.

Hj Muhd Aiman who will also be taking part in route B reminds participants to keep hydrated and eat their breakfast before partaking in the expedition.

The expedition is open to Ministry of Health staff as well as cycling enthusiasts.

Registration is $15 per person. Participants will receive a t-shirt for them to wear during the expedition. Registration was open from September 15 until today (October 20). Walk in participation is also welcome.

Participants can collect their expedition pack starting today (October 20) at Innovation room, first floor at the PMMPMHAMB Hospital during working hours.

Registration forms are available at all four hospitals in the country.

Registration forms can also be obtained from the following shops- Triple Star Enterprise (in Kiulap), Triple Star Enterprise (in Tanjung Bunut), Bruwan Company Sdn Bhd (in Berakas), Basikal Max (in Serusop), Awang Tom Tom (in Jerudong), Geotrax (in Sungai Liang), Dirt Hut (in Tutong district), Restaurant Asriza (in Lamunin) and Lamunin Clinic (in Tutong district).

Completed registration forms and payment must be submitted to the event secretariat no later than October 20 at Level 1, Innovation room of PMMPMHAMB Hospital during working hours.

Registration forms and payment can also be submitted at Star Enterprise in Kiulap.
