A LOCAL man was sentenced to six months in prison and one stroke of the cane yesterday after he admitted to sexually assaulting a woman jogger earlier this month.

On October 10, at around 5.30pm, the victim, a 30-year old woman, was jogging along Jalan Perdana Menteri around the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium area when she saw the defendant standing alone at the bus stop that was facing Bolkiah Camp. The victim also saw that there was a car parked there.

As she passed the bus stop the defendant suddenly reached out to the victim and sexually assaulted her.

The woman instantly shouted at the defendant, and the defendant ran to the car that was parked nearby.

Another jogger came to help the victim after hearing her scream.

Both the victim and the jogger tried to stop the defendant by standing in front of his car.

However, hearing that he was pressing the accelerator, they immediately jumped to the side on to the stable.

Despite the defendant managing to drive away, the victim took note of the defendant’s car and registration number.

She later lodged a report at the Berakas Police Station.

The assailant was later arrested and identified as 30-year-old Dini Masir.

During the investigation by the Women and Children Abuse Investigation Unit, Dini admitted that he had outraged the modesty of the victim as she jogged past him at the vicinity of Jalan Perdana Menteri on October 10.

At the Magistrates’ Court yesterday, Dini was ordered to serve the imprisonment sentence with effect from October 15, the date when he entered his guilty plea.
