BRUNEI is forecasted to experience gusty winds and heavy rain until tomorrow as a result of Typhoon Sarika in the Philippines.

The Meteorological Department said wind gusts of up to 50km per hour and heavy rain are expected to occasionally occur especially over Brunei waters and coastal areas.

As wave height may rise above 1.5m, the department advised members of the public against operating small boats at sea.

According to the advisory, there is also the risk of flash flood occurring particularly at low-lying and flood prone areas during continuous heavy downpour.

The forecast weather conditions are influenced by the indirect tail-end effects of Typhoon Sarika, which is moving west-northwest across the Philippines.

The department said it will continue to monitor weather conditions and will issue weather advisories or warnings whenever necessary. — Julius Hong
