Deputy state mufti leaves for conference

DEPUTY State Mufti Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Japar Hj Mat Dain @ Maidin yesterday departed for Cairo, Egypt to attend an international conference entitled ‘Training and Preparation for Imams and Muftis in Muslim Minority Countries’.

According to a statement from the State Mufti’s Office, the two-day conference, which starts tomorrow, is organised by Egypt’s State Mufti’s Office and will take place at the Al Masa Hotel in Nasr City, Cairo.

The deputy state mufti is being accompanied by Senior Istinbat Officer at the State Mufti’s Office Hj Abd Rahman Pengarah Hj Mokti.

Representatives from 80 countries are expected to attend the conference, which will discuss important issues related to Muslim minorities in Western countries.

It will also cover handling extremism and how to counter challenges faced by the Muslim community.
