BRUNEI is expected to experience squally showers and thundershowers as a result of the indirect effects of Typhoon Sarika, which was located east of the Philippines yesterday.

In a press statement, the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department reported that gusty showers are expected in the sultanate until tomorrow.

Gusting winds reaching up to 40km per hour are forecast to occur during this period, especially over sea areas, the department said.

“The wave height over Brunei waters may also increase from moderate to rough conditions up to 2.5m, especially over offshore areas,” it added.

The forecast weather conditions are influenced by the indirect tail-end effects of Typhoon Sarika, which is expected to continue moving west-northwest across the Philippines.

The public is advised to take precautions in facing unsettled weather conditions that the sultanate may experience due to the typhoon.

The Meteorological Department will keep monitoring weather conditions and will issue weather advisories or warnings as and when necessary.

The latest weather updates can also be obtained from the department’s official website at www.met.gov.bn, its Facebook page bruneiweather, or using the Brunei WX mobile application. The public can also call the weather hotline at 114.
