83-year-old woman receives help
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
THE Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (YSHHB) yesterday visited the home of Hjh Tampoi Abdul Ghani at Kampong Kiulap to lend her a helping hand.
Through its ‘Caring for the Elderly and Families in Need Charity Project’ (PAWEK), YSHHB funded the repair of her house worth $9,259, including installing a new toilet.
The 83-year-old Hjh Tampoi has never been employed and is dependent on the financial aid provided by the Community Development Department (JAPEM), Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports amounting to $100 monthly along with her $250 old age pension.
Residing in her 30-year-old home inherited from her parents, she is periodically visited by her nephew to check on her condition.
The house has four bedrooms, a kitchen, a living room and a damaged toilet on the ground floor.
Although the house is still structurally in good condition, the walls, pillars, floor and roof need repairs.
The construction of a new toilet on the first floor, which is closer to her room, would not require her to climb down.
In its effort to provide care and assistance for the elderly in need, YSHHB also painted the exterior of the house and cleaned the interior and its surroundings.
To reduce the burden of Hajah Tampoi, YSHHB, also through the PAWEK project, gave her food donations amounting to $200.
Participating in the event were Yayasan Board of Director and Chairperson of Yayasan Volunteer Committee Dato Paduka Dr Hj Affendy Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin and Hj Brahim Hj Ismail, the managing director of YSHHB, as well as officers, staff and volunteers from YSHHB.
