Six to represent Tutong in national Quran competition
SIX Al-Quran readers from Tutong are set to represent the district at the quarter-finals of the national level Quran reading competition.
The five selected _qari _and one qariah took part in the district level Al-Quran reading competition yesterday at the Kg Penanjong mosque where they were selected based on their scores.
According to the Mosque Affairs Department, only those who score 75 per cent or more are eligible to compete in the quarter-finals.
Mosque officer Hj Mahari Hj Metussin, came in first place with a score of 81.4 per cent during the district level competition.
“Alhamdulilah, I am thankful to Allah SWT for allowing me to enter the national quarter-finals,” he said.
He said he has taken initiatives to improve his reading skills such as taking part in a workshop where he was able to gain knowledge and experience.
Hj Mahari said that he will continue to practice and learn from others to ensure he is able to give his best efforts during the national competition.
“I know I have many weaknesses, but I am determined to improve by seeking assistance from others,” he said.
Meanwhile, Lailatul Nasyitah Hj Abu Bakar was selected as winner for female readers, scoring 77.6 per cent.
“This is my first time joining and I am very happy (with the results). This motivates me to continue to improve myself and improve my reading skills,” the university student said.
Before the competition, she said she sought assistance from her friends and family who are well versed in reciting Al-Quran.
On hand to present the awards during the competition yesterday was Acting Tutong District Officer Hj Adnan Hj Adam.
