A LOCAL man accused of drug trafficking was released on bail yesterday pending a further mention of the case.

Hj Mohammad Hj Saidin was accused of possession of 10.8647 grammes of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking while at the vicinity of Sungai Kebun car park on March 15, 2011. The penalty carries an imprisonment term of up to 20 years and 15 strokes of the cane.

The defendant is represented by Defence Counsel Hj Rozaiman Dato Hj Abd Rahman.

During the Magistrates’ Court proceedings yesterday, Hj Rozaiman applied for no plea to be taken yet as they have yet to receive documents pertaining to the case.

He said that despite communication with the authorities, they have only so far received the report from the Department of Scientific Service.

Among the reports that he requested include the first information report, statements from the defendants, list of exhibits seized, statement of NCB officers during the operations and photographs.

In response, the Narcotic Control Bureau prosecuting officer sought for a two week adjournment to refer the case to the deputy public prosecutor.

The court granted the application for adjournment and scheduled for the case to be heard on October 31.

Meanwhile, Hj Mohammad Saidin was released on a $5,000 court bail or the same amount in one local surety with the condition that he is not to commit any offence while on bail.
