Brunei, Singapore close Exercise Airguard

EXERCISE Airguard 2016, the bilateral exercise between the Royal Brunei Air Force (RBAirF) and the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) officially came to a close in a ceremony that was held at the Bukit Agok Firing Range in Tutong on Wednesday.

Exercise Airguard started on October 6 and was carried out for two weeks.

According to the Ministry of Defence website, the closing ceremony saw both Commander of the RBAirF, Brigadier General (U) Dato Seri Pahlawan Shahril Anwar Hj Ma’awiah and Chief of the RSAF, Major-General Mervyn Tan Wei Ming touring the exercise areas.

In his speech, the RBAirF Commander highlighted the importance of the exercise in bridging military to military cooperation between the two air forces.

He said that this year’s exercise was a significant one because for the first time, the exercise featured two female troop commanders leading the exercise and they were Lt (U) Noraqidah Efinddi from the RBAirF and LTA Thng Lizhen from the RSAF.

The ceremony proceeded with the handover of the flag for Exercise Airguard by the RBAirF’s Commanding Officer of the No 2 Wing to the RSAF’s Commanding Officer of the 18th Divisional Air Defence Artillery Battalion.

The handing over of the flag symbolises handing over of duty as host for the next Exercise Airguard. – Wail Wardi Wasil
