THE Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) held a ceremony to welcome the new Hijrah year 1438 yesterday at the Law and Court Building in the capital.

Present as the guest of honour was the Attorney General Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Paduka Hjh Hayati Pehin Orang Kaya Shahbandar Dato Seri Paduka Hj Md Salleh.

Also at the event was the son of Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Hj Mohammed Al Mokhtar.

The ceremony included a special talk titled ‘Harta Berkat Negara Selamat’, which was in line with the theme of this year’s national Hijrah celebrations.

The talk, delivered by assistant counselor at the Prisons Department under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ustaz Fariszal Ali, highlighted the significance of the Hijrah of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) from Makkah to Madinah.

Ustaz Fariszal said that many people only know Hijrah as the New Islamic calendar and fail to recognise the important lessons from Prophet Muhammad (SAW) Hijrah.

Although people cannot partake in the Prophet’s Hijrah from Makkah to Madinah, he said that Muslims can still learn from the prophet’s experience and can engage in a different kind of Hijrah.

“A true migrator is one who abandons what Allah SWT has prohibited and who is willing to change for the better,” he said.

Prophet Muhammad (SAW) Hijrah also imparted invaluable lessons for Muslims in creating a peaceful and prosperous country as well as receiving forgiveness and help from Allah SWT, he added.

Among other lessons that can be taken from the Hijrah event are the act of being patient, having faith and staying true in order to achieve goals.

He urged Muslims to practice self reflection, adding that those who are successful and happy in life are those who strive to be better Muslims than they were yesterday.
