TWO Chinese nationals were sentenced to two months in prison after they pleaded guilty to stealing cash and jewellery from another passenger aboard a Royal Brunei Airlines (RB) flight from Jakarta to Bandar Seri Begawan.

Peng Jiuhui, 40, and Jun Qin, 28, were caught red-handed by RB flight attendants, who saw Peng rifling through a passenger’s carry-on bag in the overhead compartment and later discovered the duo had stashed jewellery in the aircraft restroom.

During the proceedings yesterday, prosecution filed an additional mischief charge against Qin when he broke the window of the operational room at the police station on September 26 this year.

The 28-year old admitted to punching and hitting his head on the glass window and causing it to break because he was feeling frustrated.

The court yesterday imposed a $400 fine on Qin after he pleaded guilty to causing property damage.

The presiding magistrate yesterday ordered both men to serve their sentence from the day they were first remanded on September 25.

In another theft case heard yesterday, a police officer was sentenced to 16 months in prison after he admitted to stealing four iPhone 6S from AV Audio and Video Mobile branches at The Mall and at Times Square.

Lance Corporal Andy Sautheno Sianong went to the branches on separate occasions pretending to buy two iPhones.

However, while the cashier was swiping his card, Andy discreetly placed the phones in his bag.

When his card was declined, he told the cashier he would go and withdraw money but never returned to the shop.

The 33-year old kept one iPhone and sold the others at prices ranging from $530 to $600 each with the proceeds for his personal use.

Andy was subsequently arrested on October 6 following police investigations.
