THE Syababurroja Youth Group and Muslimah Group of the Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah continued their community project to help the less fortunate and underprivileged on Sunday.

Both groups delivered donations to 32 families residing at the National Housing Scheme (RPN) Kampung Serasa and Perpindahan Serasa Lama as well as residents of the Landless Indigenous Citizens Housing Scheme (STKRJ) Kampung Mata-Mata Gadong.

Speaking to The Brunei Times, coordinator of the project, Mudim Hj Suhaili Hj Kalong said the donations took place from 8am to 2pm.

“The families were identified by both groups as we went down to the villages ourselves to see the condition of the families.”

Mudim Hj Suhaili said the mosque groups started collecting donations from September 25 to October 4.

He said over 10,000 basic necessities, food as well as clothing were collected during the 10 days adding that the groups continued to receive donations even after the closing date.

The donations included rice, cooking oil, dry food, canned food and drinks, among others.

Mudim Hj Suhaili, who is also a mosque officer at the Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah, said they did not expect the overwhelming response from the public but were thankful for the contributions.

“It is hoped that the donations will help ease the burden of the less fortunate and underprivileged.”

He lauded and congratulated members of the Syababurroja Youth Group and Muslimah Group for their hard work and great teamwork spirit to help those in need.

Also present to support the project was the village head of Kampung Kiulap, Hj Mohammad Abu Bakar.

Mudim Hj Suhaili said the groups were honoured to play a part in helping the public present donations to those in need and will continue the community project to reach as many less fortunate and underprivileged as possible.

The next community project will take place on Wednesday where the groups will be presenting donations to 10 families in the Kampung Junjongan area.
