THE Ministry of Development through the Land Department yesterday commemorated the new Islamic year by hosting a religious event that took place at the Indera Pahlawan Hall of the ministry’s Training Centre.

The ceremony to mark the new Hijrah year 1438 began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah which was followed by the reading of verses from Al-Quran by Amal Hayati Hj Junaidi, who won the female category during the Tilawah Al-Quran Competition in 2014.

The event also featured a special talk by Ustaz Abd Rahman Hj Ajak, a Master’s degree holder in Islamic Philosophy from University Al-Kaherah, Egypt.

During his talk entitled, ‘Heading towards Allah and His prophet’ (Menuju Allah dan Rasulnya), Ustaz Abd Rahman highlighted the concept of Hijrah (migration) as a journey for Muslims towards personal betterment and getting closer to Allah SWT.

He said that Hijrah is wajib (compulsory) for every Muslim. However it does not necessarily mean just moving from one place to another.

Ustaz Abd Rahman said that the journey for every Muslim is different but the Hijrah should start from within the heart with the intention of getting one’s self closer to Allah SWT and His teachings through taubat (repentance).

The event ended with a _tausheh _performance by the Al-Jannah group from the Land Department.

Present at the event as the guest of honour was the Minister of Development, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Hj Bahrin Abdullah alongside the Deputy Minister, Dato Paduka Hj Suhaimi Hj Gapar.

Also in attendance were permanent secretaries of the ministry, Dato Paduka Eddie Dato Paduka Hj Sunny (Technical and Professional) and Hj Muhd Lufti Abdullah (Administration and Finance).
