THE Tutong District Volunteers Association (SUKA) continued to expand its ‘Program Sumbang dan Bantu’ (Contribute and Help Programme) by organising a donation ceremony at the Kg Birau Community Centre in Mukim Kiudang yesterday.

Present as the event’s guest of honour was Acting Tutong District Officer Hj Adnan Hj Adam.

Hj Adnan handed over reusable bags to several recipients at the event and presented the donations to orphans and the poor and destitute living in Mukim Kiudang.

The event was held to strengthen the cooperation among volunteer groups, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and members of the Mukim Consultative Councils (MPM) and the Village Consultative Councils (MPK).

A press statement provided by SUKA said yesterday’s event marked the first Contribute and Help Programme held in a mukim.

Similar events will be extended to other mukims in the district.

The programme also saw the villagers dropping off donated clothing at the centre.

Those in need can stop by at the centre to collect the clothing, free-of-charge.

The Contribute and Help Programme was introduced in January 2016 to mark International Volunteers Day, which is celebrated globally on December 5.

SUKA has received more than 6,000 pieces of clothing. Of this number, over 5,000 pieces have been donated to those in need.

SUKA has also donated clothes to fire victims in Brunei-Muara District, Tutong District and Temburong District.
