Women’s Council conducts Khatam Al-Quran and thanksgiving ceremony

THE Women’s Council of Brunei Darussalam yesterday held a Khatam Al-Quran and thanksgiving ceremony in commemorating Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha’s birthday at Suri Seri Begawan Raja Pengiran Anak Damit Mosque.

The annual event was to honour the Royal Patron with prayers and well wishes for Her Majesty’s continuous support and encouragement to women, especially the Women’s Council in the country.

The event was attended by more than 300 participants from 13 women’s associations and organisations in the sultanate, including Pertiwi, Women’s Institute of Brunei (WI) and Girl Guides Association of Brunei Darussalam (PPPBD).

The congregants were joined by the council’s President Datin Hjh Siti Hajar Pehin OKSS Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Yusof, and Vice-Presidents Pg Datin Paduka Hjh Mariam Pg Hj Matarsat and Datin Hjh Masni Hj Ali. Also present were Chief Commissioner of PPPBD Hjh Siti Hafsah Hj Abdul Halim, other presidents and vice-presidents of the women’s associations as well as members of Brunei Darussalam Nurses Association (PENJURU) and the National Anti-Drugs Association of Brunei Darussalam (BASMIDA).

The Khatam Al-Quran was joined by 150 participants including the event’s committee members. The event began with mass mahgrib prayers, followed by recitals of Surah Yassin and Doa Kesyukuran, led by the mosque’s imam, Imam Nuzli Hj Jumat.

The congregation also performed mass Isya’ prayers before proceeeding with the reading of Al-Quran.

Dikir Marhaban, headed by members of Pertiwi, Brunei Malay Teachers Association (PGGMB) and Belait District Women's Welfare Association (PKP) also featured in the event.
