Ministry of Finance, UTB mark Hijrah 1438

THE Ministry of Finance yesterday commemorated the new Islamic year by hosting a religious ceremony at its Theatre Hall.

The ceremony to mark the Hijrah 1438 New Year began with a recitation of the Surah Al-Fatihah followed by welcoming remarks by the event’s chairperson, Suraya Hj Jaidin.

The religious ceremony also had a special talk by an invited speaker from the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

The speaker Ustaz Mohd Yusof Hj Abdul Majid delivered a talk titled “Lessons in Championing and Defending the Faith” where he spoke of the importance of prayers among others.

Present as the guest of honour was the Acting Minister of Finance Dato Paduka Dr Hj Mohd Amin Liew Abdullah.

Universiti Teknologi Brunei also held a similar ceremony at their campus.

According to a statement issued by the university, the Islamic New Year was commemorated with a religious talk by a speaker from the Islamic Dakwah Centre.

The talk entitled, “Hijrah dalam Kehidupan Berlandaskan Sunnah”, where Ustazah Norhayati Hj Abdul Rahman emphasised the contemporary application of the Hijrah which should be a constant endeavour to resist any negative tendencies and characteristics within one‘s self.

She also said that it is important for Muslims to emulate the Hijrah of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) by embarking on personal transformations that would help them become better individuals who would also please Allah SWT.

Present yesterday as the guest of honour was the university’s vice-chancellor, Professor Dr Hjh Zohrah Hj Sulaiman.
