MPKs need strategic place to sell local goods
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
MEMBERS of Brunei-Muara village consultative councils (MPKs) have called on organisers of the Bandarku Ceria Programme to place them at a strategic location in the capital to boost their sales of locally made goods.
The MPK members said the location of their booths play an important role in promoting the One Village, One Product (OVOP) initiative.
The area where the products are displayed should be strategic and easily accessed by people, they said.
The MPK members commended the weekly Bandarku Ceria Programme’s car-free day, which allowed MPK members to showcase their handicrafts and homemade snacks at Taman Hj Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien (SOAS) last Sunday.
However, Abdul Rahman Abdullah, a committee member of the economic bureau under Kg Mentiri National Housing Scheme MPK, said it would be good if the MPKs can be allocated an area where there is heavy foot traffic.
He said many people were still unaware of the stalls placed inside Taman SOAS. “The event is a good opportunity for us to promote our village products. But if possible, the area to display the OVOP goods should be able to stand out from the crowd,” said Abdul Rahman.
Another exhibitor, Hj Tunggal Jumat, who is a member of Kg Putat MPK, agreed that villagers could benefit from the event as it is a good platform to promote and showcase local products.
Hj Tunggal, who makes wooden machetes and daggers, said he does not only make the products for extra income but also to teach youth in the village about wooden handicrafts.
