THE Land Transport Department (LTD) is introducing a call service that will enable members of the public in the Brunei-Muara district to call and get access to a taxi, beginning tomorrow.

The call centre service aims to facilitate the public to get a taxi from anywhere within the district, the department said in a press statement yesterday.

The call service is a follow-up to the metered taxi system that was launched on September 23 to ensure taxi drivers charge regulated and consistent fares.

LTD said the service will be introduced on a temporary basis for now, while waiting for a permanent booking service of a similar nature or for interested parties to introduce one involving mobile app technology.

Members of the public can call 7181643 to make a taxi booking, and the booking service will be operating daily (including Fridays, Sundays and public holidays) from 6.30am to 9pm.

People requiring taxi services beyond these hours can also contact taxi drivers at their phone numbers which are listed online, LTD said.

The department also said a booking surcharge of $2 will be added to the metered taxi fare, as well as other surcharges, if any, in accordance with the rates that were determined and published.
