MoRA officials visit asnaf fakir miskin, converts

SENIOR officials at the Ministry of Religious Affairs yesterday visited several residence of asnaf fakir miskin (poor and destitute) and muallaf (Muslim converts) nationwide in conjunction with the new 1438 Hijrah year.
The visit was aimed at monitoring their welfare and progress in several aspects including basic needs for their children’s schooling and the progress of Muslim converts in their religious knowledge.
The recipients also received donations in the form of cash and food essentials yesterday.
The donations were contributed by the Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) Zakat Asnaf Fakir Miskin Fund.
Yesterday’s delegation was divided into four groups with the Minister of Religious Affairs Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Awg Badaruddin Pengarah Dato Paduka Hj Awang Othman leading the delegation in Temburong.
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Dato Paduka Hj Abdul Mokti Hj Mohd Daud headed the delegation in Brunei-Muara district.
Permanent Secretary Dato Seri Setia Hj Abdul Aziz Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Hj Md Yusof led the delegation in Tutong while Deputy Permanent Secretary Roselan Hj Taja’ah headed the delegation in Belait district.
At the Selapon Da’wah Post in Temburong, the religious affairs minister presented donations to 19 individuals categorised as poor and destitute as well as Muslim converts residing in Kg Selapon.
The delegation also visited the home of Kg Selapon resident, Hussin Abdullah, who is already a recipient of the zakat fund.
YB Pehin Dato Hj Awg Badaruddin also visited the home of Nur Haziah Abd Rahman in Kg Batang Duri.
Nur Haziah is one of the success stories of an asnaf zakat recipient who managed to improve her life and have her name taken off the zakat recipients list. She had been a zakat recipient from 2009 until 2014.
In the Brunei-Muara district, the deputy minister of religious affairs, in his capacity as the deputy president of MUIB visited four houses.
Dato Hj Abdul Mokti presented donations in the form of car wash equipment to Ak Othman Pg Burut for his car wash business in Kg Batu Bersurat, Mukim Gadong.
Dato Hj Abdul Mokti also visited a Muslim convert who had beensuccessful in improving her quality of life by setting up a business with assistance from the Islamic Da’wah Centre.
The delegation assigned for Tutong and Belait district visited four households each.
In Tutong, the households visited were in Kg Kiudang, Kg Luagan Timbaran at Jalan Lamunin, Kg Petani and Kg Keriam.
Among the recipients in Belait was Zainuddin Minor Absah who lives with his family of seven in Panaga and only has a fixed income of $380 to provide for his household.
