THE prosecution will be finalising a charge against a Malaysian man accused of attempting to rape and outrage the modesty of a 15-year-old girl.

At the Magistrates’ Court yesterday, Prosecuting Officer Hjh Zuraidah Hj Sidek told Presiding Chief Magistrate Muhammed Faisal PDJLD DSP Hj Kefli that they are still waiting for the results from the Department of Scientific Services on the defendant’s urine and blood samples. She said this will take up to two weeks.

The prosecution further sought a one-month adjournment to allow them to assess the reports before finalising the charge and remitting the case to the High Court.

The defendant, whose name is being withheld to protect the victim’s identity, is accused of attempting to rape the girl on September 4 this year. He is also accused of outraging the victim’s modesty on the same day.

The 35-year-old defendant, who had his case heard through a video conference system, indicated that he wants to appeal against the High Court’s decision denying him release on bail due to his immigration status.

A further mention of the case is scheduled to be held on November 1.
