China keen to enhance Brunei ties

CHINA attaches great importance to its relations with Brunei and is ready to work together to facilitate mutually beneficial cooperation, the Chinese ambassador said.

China’s Ambassador to Brunei Yang Jian said this last night during a reception held at the Rizqun International Hotel to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Brunei and China, as well as the 67th anniversary of the founding of China.

Yang said that relations between both countries have been moving steadily with expanding exchanges and cooperation in different fields and increasing of understanding and friendship since the signing of the Joint Communique on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between China and Brunei between then-Chinese Foreign Minister Qian Qichen and His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah 25 years ago.

She said that His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has visited China 10 times, and has all along given his care and support for the development of Brunei-China relations.

“In 2013, the first foreign guest received by President Xi Jinping after he assumed his office was His Majesty.

“During that visit to China the two leaders decided to upgrade the bilateral relationship to the level of Strategic Cooperative Relationship,” she said.

She added that China cannot achieve its development without the world, and that it was ready to work with other countries to strengthen cooperation and “achieve win-win results”.

Present as the guest of honour at the event was the Second Minister of Finance Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Dato Seri Setia Hj Abdul Rahman Hj Ibrahim.
