THE Brunei Council on Social Welfare (MKM) is calling for members of the public to participate in their Fun Run Sweat for Charity 2016 which is scheduled to be held on October 23 at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas.

During a press conference with the media, chairperson for the event Hj Johan Hj Tuah said that the council aims to have at least 800 participants join the run.

“This event is one of our ways to secure funds for our projects that cater to helping underprivileged families and individuals in our society. The more participants, the larger the funds that we can secure for our various charity projects,” he said.

Hj Johan said that registration for the run has been opened for almost three months, however they have not reached even half of their intended participants.

Registration for the run is slated to close on October 15.

“We have marketed the run actively through posts on social media and our website, through word of mouth by telling our friends, family and clients (and) by setting up registration booths at recreational areas such as Jubilee Park and at Tasek Lama Recreational Park,” he said.

Participation of the public is important as their contributions will not only benefit the council and its members, but also the underprivileged families who are in need, he added.

The fee is $35 per entry and every runner is entitled to a free T-shirt, face towel, certificate of participation and a finishing medal.

The run is divided into three categories — 5km for men, 2.5km for women and a 2.5km costume run.

Hj Johan said that participants of the costume run can wear traditional outfits based on the seven Bruneian ethnic groups namely Brunei Malay, Tutong, Kedayan, Belait, Murut, Dusun and Bisaya, adding that the most interesting attire has the chance to bring home a prize.

MKM has set up promotion booths at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium and at the Times Square Shopping Complex for everyone to register.

People can also register at MKM’s office at Block C, Unit No 23, Ground Floor, Melabau Complex, Serusop.
