A HOMELESS man who was found living on a jetty last week was brought to the Magistrates’ Court yesterday to have his bail revoked after the authorities found that he had absconded from his bail while facing drug charges.

Mohd Sadiqin Hj Jublee, was arrested on Monday afternoon at the Kg Ujong Bukit car park after law enforcement agencies were alerted to his whereabouts after a report was published about his plight.

It was reported last week that the defendant had been living with his stepsister at the Kg Ujong Bukit passenger jetty for over a year after they were forced out of a house in Kg Sengkurong when his stepmother, whom they were living with at the time, was admitted to Al-Islah Rehabilitation Centre.

During the proceedings before Magistrate Dewi Norlelawati Hj Abd Hamid yesterday, it was revealed that the defendant had been charged four years ago with two counts of consuming drugs, two counts of possessing drugs and one count of possessing drug paraphernalia that were allegedly committed in 2010.

The defendant had pleaded not guilty then and the case was fixed for trial in January 2012 when the defendant was allowed to be released on bail set at two local sureties who bailed him. However, the defendant absconded and never turned up for the trial.

The defendant told the court that the reason he did not attend the trial was because he was unwell at the time, which made him confused. However, the presiding magistrate said he made no effort to contact the authorities that he would not be attending the trial.

The magistrate revoked the defendant’s bail and ordered him to be remanded at Jerudong prison until October 11 to decide whether to proceed with the trial from where the case left off in 2012 or to begin a new trial.
