Embassy marks 26th Day of German Unity in Brunei

THE German Embassy in Brunei last evening conducted a reception to mark the 26th anniversary of the Day of German Unity at The Radisson Hotel Brunei Darussalam.

 The Ambassador of Germany to Brunei, Roland Grafe praised the bilateral relations between Brunei and his country.

He also praised German compatriots for their efforts and contributions in Brunei as it indirectly assists Germany in strengthening the relation between the countries.

“My compatriots can be found mostly in areas of teaching establishment, health care, automobile sector and aviation.

 “I would like to thank each and every one of them for their valuable contribution they made to Germany’s bilateral relation with Brunei,” he said.  

This year marks 32 years since both countries began its diplomatic relation in 1984, after Brunei regained its full independence. 

He said last year’s anniversary was a good opportunity to look ahead and realise that Brunei is intensifying its own economic development.

“The country is fast moving forward within ASEAN especially the ambitious design of internal market economic community as well as the East Asia growth area are initiatives where we will see more Germans and EU involvement in the future,” said the ambassador.

 Attending the reception was the Minister of Health, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Zulkarnain Hj Hanafi along with his spouse.

The reception began with the national anthems of both countries and continued with a cake-cutting ceremony and a presentation of souvenirs to the minister and spouse.  

The Day of German Unity is the national day of Germany which is celebrated every October 3.
