THE Public Service Department (JPA) held a tahlil ceremony yesterday at the Royal Mausoleum in conjunction with the 23rd Civil Service Day.

The ceremony was also to pay their respects to the late parents of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam — Al-Marhum Sultan Hj Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien and Al-Marhumah Duli Raja Isteri Pg Anak Damit.

In a statement, the department said that the theme for this year’s Civil Service Day is “Transformation towards Progressive Civil Service” , a departure from the theme of the past two years.

“This theme highlights the importance of a progressive public service that continuously strives to provide the best ecosystem and environment for the residents of Brunei Darussalam,” the department said.

The theme implies responsiveness and attentiveness to the aspirations and needs of the society, adding it also implies the transformation of thought in executing government policies that aims to achieve the nation’s vision.

In this era of rapid change, civil servants were told to have an ‘attitude of mind’ that is creative and innovative in addressing the challenges in public service that has been brought by this new millennium, said the department.

Present at the religious ceremony was Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Roselan Hj Mohd Daud, Acting Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Dato Paduka Hj Hamdan Hj Abu Bakar, Deputy Minister (Security and Media) at the Prime Minister’s Office.
