6th Int’l Conference on Islam in the Malay World ends

THE concept of ‘Baldatun Tayyibatun Wa Rabbun Ghafur’ (a state that is good and full of forgiveness from Allah SWT) showed a clear link between the prosperity of a nation and the welfare of its ummah, said director of Department of Al-Quran and Al-Hadith, Academy of Islamic Studies, University of Malaya.

 Professor Dato Dr Mohd Yakub@Zulkifli Mohd Yusoff was one of the panelists at the forum held in conjunction with the closing ceremony yesterday.

“If a nation is managed in a good way, the nation will be prosperous,” he said. 

Professor Dato Dr Mohd Yakub cited Surah Saba verse 15 where Allah SWT said: “There was for (the tribe of) Saba’ in their dwelling place a sign: two (fields of) gardens on the right and on the left. (They were told), “Eat from the provisions of your Lord and be grateful to Him. A good land [have you], and a forgiving Lord.

The seminar is collaboration between four universities from four countries- Brunei’s Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), Malaysia’s Universiti Malaya, Thailand Universiti Prince Songkhla and Indonesia’s Universiti Islam Negeri Sunan Gunung Djati.

The panelists also emphasised the importance of unity and the importance of religious education as the keys to achieving prosperity in Islam. 

Professor Mahyuddin Yahaian, the senior lecturer at the Faculty of Arabic Language and Islamic Civilisation, UNISSA reiterated the State Mufti, Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Hj Awg Abdul Aziz Juned’s point made on Tuesday.

 The seminar also featured panellsts — Professor Dr Ali Bangcola Panda, assistant vice chancellor academic for Academic Affairs, Mindanao State University; Professor Asep Saepul Muhtadee, Universiti Islam Negeri Sunan Gunung Djati, Bandung Indonesia and Dr Yusof Talek, director of College of Islamic Studies, Prince of Songkhla University. Deputy Minister of Education, Pg Dato Paduka Hj Bahrom Pg Hj Bahar was present alongside rector of UNISSA and Dr Hj Norarfan Hj Zainal.
