Stamp collectors off to World Stamp Championship

A MEMBER of the National Philatelic Society of Brunei (PFKB) will be attending the PHILATAIPEI 2016 World Stamp Championship Exhibition from October 20 to 26.

Secretary General of National Philatelic Society of Brunei, Hj Bakar Berudin will be bringing 10 frames of stamps for two out of 28 categories.

The exhibition is organised by Chunghwa Post Co Ltd, Chinese Taipei Philatelic Federation and Taiwan External Trade Development Council.

Hj Bakar will be competing and exhibiting his stamps collection Under the Class 2B- Traditional Philately (Asia, Oceania and Africa).

His exhibition is titled ‘Brunei Definitive - Brunei River View Stamp 1907-1951’.

He will also be bringing a stamp collection belonging to Hisyam Abdullah who will be participating in the Class 8A – Youth Philately (10-15 years old) category. Hisyam’s exhibit is titled ‘Brunei Singapore Airlines, Malaysian Airlines and Royal Brunei Airlines - The Journey of Growth’.

The exhibition will be held at Exhibition Hall 1, Taipei World Trade Centre. It aimed to expand and develop friendly relations and close cooperation among Fédération Internationale de Philatélie (FIP) members and to promote philately in the FIP region.

The exhibition’s website said that the championship exhibit list is divided by class which ranges from Class 1- World Stamp championship to Class 11 – Modern Philately.

Hj Bakar hoped that their exhibits will be able to score gold medals in both categories at PHILATAIPEI 2016 World Stamp Championship Exhibition.

Hj Bakar wished to beat his achievement at the 32nd Asian International Stamp Exhibition in Bangkok in August.

The two Bruneian stamp collectors were awarded medals in their respective categories at the previous stamp exhibition.

Hj Bakar was awarded silver medal for his exhibit of ‘Brunei Definitive-Brunei River View Stamp 1907-1951’ under the exhibit class of ‘Class 2.2 Traditional Philately (Asia and Australasia)’.

Hisyam was awarded bronze medal for his exhibit titled ‘Singapore Airlines, Malaysian Airlines and Royal Brunei Airline- The Journey of Growth’. His exhibit was showcased under the Class 10.1 Youth Philately (Collectors Aged 10-15 years). The exhibition which was under the patronage of Federation of Inter-Asian Philately (FIAP) was organised from August 10 to 15th at the Mall Ngamwongwan, Bangkok, Thailand.
