THE Brunei Darussalam Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) Academy will be celebrated World First Aid Day on September 23 at the Oil and Gas Discovery Centre (OGDC) in Belait.

Faizal Gurie, the chief officer of communication and public relations said the celebration will carry the theme “First Aid For Everyone & Everywhere”.

“World First Aid Day is celebrated annually on September 10 to promote the importance of first aid training in preventing injuries and saving lives,” said Faizal.

First aid training, he said, provides more than the knowledge and skills to effectively respond and it also provides the confidence to act when needed.

Faizal said the BDRC Academy (First Aid) offers a wide variety of first aid and CPR training courses, empowering Bruneians to act on, prevent, and manage life’s emergencies.

“The celebration will be launched in the Belait district where we are expecting around 100 participants comprising representatives from government departments, primary and secondary school students, NGOs from the Belait district as well as representatives from the district’s eight Mukim.”

During the event, a forum on ‘First Aid For Everyone & Everywhere’ and ‘Basic First Aid Treatment Procedures’ will also be delivered by members of the BDRCS.

The aim of the celebration is to disseminate information on the importance of First Aid in the community to be used as a priority to save lives.

“The celebration will also be a chance to distribute knowledge and experience to the general public on First Aid which should be done according to the rules and principles.”

He said the BDRC Academy will also promote several First Aid courses to the participants.

Faizal said the celebration was also part of the BDRCS’s community service and CARE (Community and Resilience Empowerment) programme.

The BDRCS hoped that through the celebration, awareness on the importance of first aid training in preventing injuries and saving lives will be strengthened, added Faizal.
