Two RBAF personnel embrace Islam

TWO members of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) embraced Islam in seperate ceremonies held in Tutong yesterday.

Private Muhammad Azuwan Zainin of the Royal Brunei Land Force (RBLF) had his conversion ceremony at his home in Kg Bukit, Bang Dalam in Lamunin.

Meanwhile, Ordinary Rate (OD) Muhammad Sherul Abdullah Imbaran from the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) held his at Kg Sg Damit, Pemadang.

In an interview, Private Muhammad Azuwan, a soldier posted at the third battalion in Lumut expressed joy at finally being able to fulfil his wish of becoming a Muslim.

The 23-year-old said he had always wanted to embrace Islam.

“What attracted me to Islam when I was younger was seeing how Muslims carry out charitable deeds, like giving alms to the poor and sincerely helping others in the name of Islam,” he said.

Mohammad Azuwan said that he also learned about Islam from school.

Life in the RBAF, he said, had also strengthened his resolve to become a Muslim, especially seeing the spirit of camaraderie shown by his Muslim colleagues in fulfilling their religious duties including performing their five daily prayers.

Present as the guest of honour during Private Muhammad Azuwan’s conversion ceremony was the RBLF Commander, Brigadier General Pengiran Dato Seri Pahlawan Aminan Pengiran Hj Mahmud.

Meanwhile, OD Muhammad Sherul’s conversion event was attended by the RBN Commander First Admiral Pengiran Dato Seri Pahlawan Norazmi Pengiran Hj Muhammad.

Both of the men’s conversion, according to a press release from the RBAF, were the fifth and the sixth to take place within the military force this year, bringing the total number of RBAF conversion at 104 since 2006.
