IMAMS urged the public to be closer to Allah SWT by performing obligatory prayers as well as increasing sunat (non-obligatory) acts of worship.

“We must increase our taqwa (obedience to Islamic laws and fear of Allah SWT) with confidence and sincerity by performing Allah SWT’s orders and staying away from forbidden actions,” according to the Friday sermon.

Imams said Muslims must always strive to become closer to Allah SWT as a way of becoming blessed servants.

“To achieve this, we must perform obligatory acts as well as sunat acts for those who perform sunat deeds are cared for and loved by Allah SWT.”

The imams said those who perform non-obligatory acts of worship are highly ranked and therefore urged the congregants to perform such deeds to gain more rewards.

Among the sunat acts of worship that Muslims can perform include prayers, sunat fasting, giving alms, reading the Quran, reciting dikir, and performing sacrificial rites.

“Performing Korban is one of the sunat acts of worship that is demanded and preferred by Prophet Muhammad (SAW),” said the imams.

The sermon said Prophet Muhammad (SAW) would encourage his friends to perform sacrificial rites because of many benefits that include rewards from Allah SWT.

The imams said performing Korban can also make Muslims grateful for the blessings given by Allah SWT.

Conducting sacrificial rites can also foster a caring attitude towards the community as well as promote brotherhood among Muslims through the distribution of sacrificial meat.

Imams yesterday noted that a Korban ceremony was held for the first time at Istana Nurul Iman, which shows His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s care and concern for the welfare of his subjects.

“Let us all pray that His Majesty, Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hjh Saleha and other royal family members will always be protected and blessed by Allah SWT.

“Let us pray that all our good deeds and acts of worship will always be blessed by Allah SWT and hope that our Korban ceremonies will be accepted and we will gain rewards from Allah SWT,” added the imams.
