BRUNEI’S librarians recently participated in the second Convening of the International Network of Emerging Library Innovators in ASEAN (INELI-ASEAN) in Singapore.

President of Brunei Darussalam Library Association Nellie Dato Paduka Hj Sunny said the meeting discussed the proposed ASEAN Public Libraries Information Network and the content of the information network’s charter, which will be signed in Vietnam next year.

She said the four-day meeting, which was held from September 6-9 comprised talks, workshops, team presentations, awards presentation to best innovators, teams and mentors.

The progamme also included study visits to libraries in the city-state.

Nellie added that the participants learned about innovative ideas in transforming libraries, clever use of spaces in facilitating learning and discovery and the use of self-service and modern facilities that gives library staff more time to engage with users.

Launched in Thailand last year, INELI-ASEAN is funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. This year, the meeting was hosted by the National Library Board Singapore and coordinated by the National Library of the Philippines.
