Brunei scouts prepare for jamboree in Terengganu

THE Brunei Darussalam Scout Association (PPNBD) is set to participate in the upcoming Fifth ASEAN Scout Jamboree in Terengganu, Malaysia.

A contingent of six scout leaders and 10 junior scouts, together with venture scouts from PPNBD, will join over 9,000 participants from across the region for the upcoming gathering at Tengku Muhammad Ismail Scout Camp.

In addition to the 10-member states of ASEAN, the gathering will also involve scouts from dialogue partners India, South Korea and Sri Lanka.

Members of the Bruneian contingent have been actively rehearsing their traditional dance in preparation for the Fifth ASEAN Scout Jamboree, where they are expected to put on a performance, according to a statement issued by PPNBD.

From September 15 to 20, they will also take part in various skill-oriented activities and challenges that are designed to test their physical and mental endurance.

In celebration of its “Cultural Diversity and Heritage” theme, the six-day event will feature a host of cultural activities; traditional games, performances, costumes and handicraft; youth scout forum; social interaction and educational visits.

A flag handover ceremony was held at the PPNBD Headquarters at the Scout Complex in Jalan Gadong yesterday prior to the contingent’s departure to Malaysia.

During the ceremony, PPNBD President Dato Paduka Hj Idris Hj Abas presented the national flag to PPNBD Contingent Leader Hj Mohammed Hj Ali, who is also the scout commissioner of Tutong District.

Among those present from the association were Chief Commissioner Hj Awg Badar Hj Awg Ali, Secretary General Hj Zainuddin Hj Jaafar and CEO Hj Mohd Zali Hj Arsad.
