THREE Vietnamese nationals were charged by the Magistrate’s Court yesterday with prostitution-related offences after they were arrested by police at a residence in Kg Tasek Meradun.

The alleged pimp, HoangVan Minh, 37, faces four charges under the Women and Girls Protection Act for hiring out two women for sexual services and for living off the proceeds of prostitution.

If convicted, he faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $20,000 for each charge.

The two women in question, Ngyuen Thi Mong Tuyen, 28, and Lui Thi Tich, 24, were charged under the Penal Code with engaging in sexual services for pay, and face a fine of up to $5,000 and/or one year in prison.

No plea was taken from any of the defendants, as the court was still attempting to find a Vietnamese translator to facilitate the proceedings.

The prosecution stated that the trio was arrested on September 8 at a residence in Kg Tasek Meradun. They will remain in police custody until the next court date on September 14.
