NUSA Laila Puteri School (NLPS) plans to organise a business fair with other schools in the sultanate to teach children aspects of entrepreneurship.

Speaking on the sidelines of the NLPS Business Fair at their Jangsak branch yesterday, Teacher in Charge Rose Abdullah said the school plans to invite nearby primary and secondary schools.

She said they include Sayyidina Hasan Secondary School, Sayyidina Husain Secondary School, Seri Mulia Sarjana School and Katok Secondary School.

“There’s a trend for schools nowadays to set up (their own) business fairs, so we might as well invite students from other schools to come together and sell their things and see how they react with each other (in a business environment),” she said.

Rose said the fair may have a ‘garage sale concept’ where students will be able to sell their personal belongings such as old toys.

But getting the business fair to materialise will be challenging because they will need to arrange a meeting between the principals from the schools and officials from the Ministry of Education to discuss it.

She said the aim is to allow the students to formulate their own business proposals and expose them to the values and aspects of entrepreneurship at a young age.

“(During the NLPS Business Fair) for example, they will learn to create their own business proposals and run their own business (at the fair), and this will teach them to become sustainable as individuals,” she said.

According to Rose, the business fair is expected to take place at the NLPS Jangsak branch or at one of the other participating schools’ compounds.
