CURTIN University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) and Politeknik Brunei are keen to explore future collaboration in various areas.

Curtin Sarawak issued this statement following a working visit by representatives of the Department of Petroleum Engineering at Curtin Sarawak’s Faculty of Engineering and Science to Politeknik Brunei’s Lumut Campus yesterday.

Associate Professor Sharul Sham Dol, head of the Department of Petroleum Engineering, and programme coordinator Dr Hisham Khaled Ben Mahmud were received by Dean of Politeknik Brunei’s School of Science and Engineering Dr Siong S Tang, programme leader for well engineering Chai Soon Fu and other academic staff of the school’s Well Engineering Department.

The statement said the collaboration may include teaching, expertise and student exchange, as well as credit transfer for Politeknik Brunei graduates to pursue degree studies at Curtin Sarawak.

They also discussed possible collaboration between the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) student chapters of both institutions.

Associate Professor Sharul delivered a talk to more than 70 of Politeknik Brunei’s Diploma of Petroleum Engineering students on furthering their studies in petroleum engineering at Curtin Sarawak.

The statement cited that Associate Professor Sharul was encouraged by the response of his Bruneian counterparts and looked forward to a reciprocal visit by a Politeknik Brunei delegation to Curtin Sarawak later this month.

“Both our institutions should grasp the opportunity to collaborate and share our resources to develop more human capital for the petroleum industry in this region,” he said.
